Is the US struggling for tourists? The visit USA ad seems to be in TV every five minutes…

I’m not going - I’m too pregnant and looking forward to quiet Autumn at home. 🙂
PinkMoon · 26-30, F
I'm a black woman,the last place I'd feel safe to vacation at is the USA.
@SumKindaMunster I'm not talking about the drop from 2020 to 2021. I'm talking about the drop from 1990 to 2020. There was a brief spike in murders after the COVID lockdowns ended, but that has ended by now with levels returning to where they were before.

The old FBI database was problematic as it relied on voluntarily-reported statistics from local police departments, with no vetting or verification. I don't know enough about the new system to comment on it, but the old one was definitely inaccurate with a potential for racial bias. However, the drop in violent crime over the past several decades is real regardless of any reporting inaccuracies.

@PinkMoon stay out of gun free zones (democrat areas) you are very safe

There's been tourists who come here from Europe, and plan to be in New York on Monday and Vegas on Tuesday, without realizing the two places are 2,000 miles apart.
Anniedlr · 26-30, F
@graphite Africa is made up of 54 countries according to the UN🙂
graphite · 61-69, M
@Anniedlr Yes, I know there's several dozen of them. Nigeria, Eritrea, Egypt, etc.
SandWitch · 26-30, F
@Anniedlr
Africa is made up of 54 countries according to the UN🙂

Oh! In other words, the USA is just like Africa then, right? In all honesty, that makes perfect sense from how the USA portrays itself on the world stage.
Elessar · 26-30, M
Inflation is lower in the USA than Europe (and Britain even more so, iirc), which means it's convenient for them visiting here (in fact there's *plenty* of Americans here in the south rn) but expensive for us going there.

Consequently these campaigns are aimed at those of us who could still afford traveling but may be undecided, since while this situation is good for them in a general sense, it's not good for the touristic sector.
SandWitch · 26-30, F
@whowasthatmaskedman
That's actually totally true. Thanks for raising that point!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@SandWitch A point linked to this: According to Trump the Harris financial plan will add a trillion dollars to the international debt. While the Wharton School (Trumps own Alma Mater) have released their own analysis of Trumps own plan and say it will add six trillion dollars with no effort made to repay any of it.😷
SandWitch · 26-30, F
@whowasthatmaskedman

What's also interesting to add to that is that Trump actually attended the University of Pennsylvania which is loosely affiliated with the Wharton School of Business.

Trump graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the U of P. Donald J. Trump however, did not actually attend Wharton even for a single day according to Wharton's student attendance records dating back to the late 1960's, nor did Trump graduate from anywhere in the world with an MBA to his credit which he advertises to the contrary that he did.

If only that were true!
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Business must be pretty good with all the planes flying around up there. 🙄
MasterLee · 56-60, M
I just came from New Orleans. It was wall to wall tourists. Guess they didn't see the memo.
jehova · 31-35, M
America is over rated anyway.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@jehova Lets be fair. If you are in a country where your family is in danger of starvation and in dnager from being killed, or arrested and "disappeared" by the authorities, America is still an attractive country to run to. But give it time. It will catch up..😷
jehova · 31-35, M
@whowasthatmaskedman if u consider ever rising food prices in america and gun violence which, is rampant. Although random arrest and 'disappearing' is less of a risk. Im unconvinced living in america is actually any better or safer.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@jehova Thats sort of my point. Everything is relative. In some places like Gaza it would be enough for the bombing to stop. But why on earth would anyone from a socially developed country want to go to America as it is now for anything other than business...?😷
Their national debt is out of control

@Darksideinthenight2 That’s less than a million people per nation. You have almost that many for every two states

@BadAssTunaBotHoe leave fat and happy with your new ammo
Not in Vegas. 🤷🏻‍♀
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Colonelmustardseed I heard Los Vegas is really expensive now compared to 20 years ago.
@JimboSaturn Yeah. Everything is. Travel is hard now. 😔
CestManan · 46-50, F
People probably hear about how a certain public figure wants mess deportation, about crime, etc and are probably afraid to set foot here.

Besides, tourist spots in any country are typically overcrowded with obnoxious people and it is expensive.
jehova · 31-35, M
Idk new york usually fares pretty well. The influx of money from tourists especially international ones is a key to paying debt otherwise the debt is just traded among domestic citizens to\between various creditors.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@jehova Absolutely true.. The only way to pay off international debt is with money from other countries..
We are in a recession, and foreign currency is needed.
boudinMan · 61-69, M
@Darksideinthenight2 newsflash: US Jobs Revised Down By 818,000 In Election Year Shocker, Second Worst Revision In US History

get with the program.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Motzu If it was in recession it would be full of tourists (lower prices domestically due to, you know, the very definition of "recession" and therefore attractive to foreign visitors), not the other way around lol
@Motzu We’re not in a recession, unless you define it as “I can’t find a job.”
SlaveEt · 36-40, F
Come visit in late spring then. So many beautiful places to see here!
@Steph34 There is a large hole in Toledo, Ohio people like to look down into. Department of Transportation hasn't gotten around to fixing it, been years.
SlaveEt · 36-40, F
@Steph34

jackson55 · M
We have plenty of tourists here. Wish they would all go home.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Gee. I wonder why???😷
Anniedlr · 26-30, F
I don’t know but from personal experience I have found US immigration and customs at the border not very pleasant compared to other countries.
NotMy1stRodeo · 56-60, M
Not based on the crowds we see everywhere we go when on vacation ... even some less traveled spots are busier than we care to see
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
You certainly wouldn't be enjoying a quiet autumn in America you would simply FALL
