Genuine question here

How much pocket money should I have for a 2 week trip to the states? (In addition to the travel fees)
Top | New | Old
I've spent between $1500 and $2000 in a week there, before the spike in inflation (2014 & 2018). But I was staying in a hotel and food/drinks on-site of those are always extra expensive. I didn't have any meals there, but had to stay close and places across the street may still be in between hotel prices and regular competition. And I've had some alcohol (maybe 10 beers throughout the week), which are easily $7 for a regular bottle of standard pilsner. (Here the equivalent for that is maybe $3.00-$3.50 in cafes, even today.)

With lodging taken care of, I feel like $2,500 to $3,000 would be moderate for one person.
Of course, depending on location, activities, and food it can vary greatly.
You could do it for drastically less and still have a nice time. You could also easily spend way more.

That really depends upon where you are going and what you want to do. You could (in addition to hotels and travel) have a good time on $2500, but you could also spend $4000 +.

Itinerary will dictate the cost.

I prefer to eat at gastropub style restaurants, and for food and 2 drinks, it's easily $50 per person, for lunch. Dinner will be more.

If you're not in the North East or west coast, start at $2000. If you're going to use a credit card call them before travelling to notify of travel plans.

@SW-User then you would be wise to come with 4k in your wallet in US dollars. Unlike the rest of the world, you can't just walk into any bank in the States and exchange foreign currency. Only certain banks in big cities do that.

@SW-User not judging at all, I couldn't imagine traveling without a reputable credit card. But maybe that's just me.

@SW-User @Howudoin Get a credit card, either Visa or Mastercard. You can get a Trumf Visa kredittkort for nothing and it will give you travel insurance if you pay for your travel tickets with it: trumf.no/trumfvisa

You also get a rebate in some supermarkets in Norway (Kiwi, Meny, Spar, Joker).

And if you buy goods that turn out to be faulty you can often get the money back from the credit card company even if the seller refuses.

Just make sure you pay it off in full every month. That's easy in Norway with AvtaleGiro because it happens automatically.

My last random 3 week road trip cost me, on average, a little over $250 per day for gas, food and motels.

It will cost you about $800 for a gun alone, plus 2 grand to bribe any cops you meet along the way, so I wouldn't show up in the US without 5g's in my back pocket.
