I dunno what it is with a certain breed of jerk...

But I've noticed a lot of the time when I ignore them, shrug/laugh it off, don't seem to be fazed or unsettled by rude remarks etc, then eventually they try to be friends

And its different from banter because if it was banter, its like they suddenly forget what banter is.
And I love banter.

lol, I dunno, anyone else have this experience?

I have a few times, I don't understand it

What's the psychology behind it?

one could say that this is just their personality or the way they joke around, but if that's the case then why do they change when they try to make friends?

Possibly when they had nothing to lose , they were more themselves ...

And when a friendship bond is created their insecurities kick in and censor themselves ... Or possibly they have deeper feelings for the person ...

I am the opposite on the other hand ,,, once we are friends ,,,floodgates are open ,,, because true friends understand that I never mean ill will ,,, just that I am slightly twisted or completely incomprehensible , and they just enjoy the ride ...😉
Hmm, no... I usually get blocked when they realize their efforts don't upset me.

Because no one wants them as a friend. But since they did not bother you they didn't know how to act.
