Why do we treat people's sexual kinks like they're holy?

If you dismiss someone's sexual kinks, people act like you just killed a puppy. Why is it that we, as a society, are allowed to comment on everything including someone's reproductive rights, pass judgments against bodily autonomy, body shame, hate on women/feminists etc... it seems all of that acceptable but the minute you say something like "I don't think kids should be exposed to bdsm gear and male's schlongs at gay pride parades"... people LOSE IT. So why is this now so sacred and holy to people?

Shows what they care about

If people don’t want their kids exploited to adult entertainment, then they shouldn’t bring them to parades such as this! I believe that people should be open with their sexuality as long as it’s safe, sex and consensual. I also believe special beaches need to be set aside for total nudity and sex acts as long as it’s safe sex and consensual.

@Slavem They were on a public street.
Slavem · 70-79, M
@Adrift the police close the streets off for special parades that could be done anywhere

I agree. The nearly naked bondage gear in public parades is a bit much.

If you are in the right circles you can do anything you want.
Catastrophe · New
@jeancolby Yeah, abosolutely.

I don't have the answer to that, but I can tell you that I was once part of a writers group who had promiscuous persons who had grown up with promiscuous uncles, and they felt that promiscuity was normal at any age. I grew up in the opposite environment and so I have a very different point of view, although I am not in favor of total ignorance when it comes to sexuality. Because of my upbringing I have difficulty accepting promiscuity as well. (Sex anytime anywhere with anyone is promiscuity -probabaly over-simplified)
Catastrophe · New
@Mindful Yeah, I get that. I just think sexuality should be for people who love each other and should NEVER EVER involve kids. EVER. don't care where you are from in the world, it is wrong.

Not on a solid foundation, the movement is still young, so they're fiercely defensive about it. My way is not to deal with any of it, some of my favorite films for example come from this realm, but for the most part just the classics, when there was rage more at the centre, the poster child of this is Derek Jarman, I find the rage there, and transfer it to those kinds of sensibilities to a generalized frustration of the kind of world this is, which is emotionally accurate.
PinkStarburst · 56-60, F
I think the bigger question is why do we broadcast our sexual kinks to the masses? If someone puts it out there, they should be prepared for passionate opinions.
Catastrophe · New
@PinkStarburst Well, I don't but still... even in this thread I had to block people who think that's acceptable - for kids to be around naked men in bdsm gear.
PinkStarburst · 56-60, F
@Catastrophe If they are in gear then they are not naked.
Catastrophe · New
@PinkStarburst They're both and yes they can be in gear with their ass and shlong out.

@Bumbles I would never take a child to a place with naked men. I'm not a pedophile.
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
As long as its between consenting adults, and not horrible & disgusting, kink shaming is a faux pas.
Catastrophe · New
@badminton Well yeah... but it's not just between two consenting adults, that's the problem. I'd rather protect kids than committing a faux pas against perverts.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
I am/was in the lifestyle for 20 years and wouldn't have had a problem with you saying you don't think kids should be exposed to it. That's just common sense. They are not ready to be exposed to that kind of stuff yet.
BohoBabe · M
it seems all of that acceptable but the minute you say something like "I don't think kids should be exposed to bdsm gear and male's schlongs at gay pride parades"... people LOSE IT.

The internet is not the real world. Most people agree that BDSM belongs in the bedroom, not in public.
Catastrophe · New
@BohoBabe Yeah, I certainly hope so... photographic evidence suggests differently.
Ramon67 · 61-69, M
It’s a double standard
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
BDSM has no place in public space and easily accessible commercial media. Everyone with a kink is capable of finding their crowd and designated adult places, they don't need a big billboard in the middle of a city or a Facebook ad.

It's part of the whole "Woke" disease. The Smithsonian museum in Washington NOW has BDSM gear on display where CHILDREN can see it.

It's basically "child grooming". PEDO stuff.
Catastrophe · New
@4meAndyou WOW. That is MESSED UP!
EBSVC · 41-45, T
Because that specific critique has been used as a justification for oppressing queer people for like a century

The reason it gets so much pushback is because it’s the same bullshit that bigots have been using for that same century
Catastrophe · New
@EBSVC So in other words, you're all for grown males exposing their genitals to children in publim. Got it.
