I am fascinated with the concept of ghosting. I don't like being ghosted. I feel it's deeply disrespectful to ghost anybody. Once, somebody was quite rude to me. I was supposed to go to their birthday party, I told them that my car needed to be fixed which they knew to be true. I just didn't want to fix my car for that day because I didn't want to be their friend anymore since they disrespected me. Anyways, I didn't show up so they accused me of ghosting them. When I refer to ghosting, I am specifically referring to the term used when somebody will all of a sudden avoid another person without any warning even if a specific schedule was supposed to be arranged. Anyways, what are your opinions on ghosting?????

I feel like it depends. Some people deserve to be ghosted, and some don’t take no for an answer. I’ve had guys that I had to ghost because they wouldn’t leave me alone after I told them I want nothing to do with them. And some people simply don’t deserve an explanation. If you get ghosted, take it as a sign that that person shouldn’t be in your life anyway. People who genuinely care about you wouldn’t do that. So they did you both a favor.
@Saucylover I completely agree!

Idc if someone ghosts me. They don’t owe me shit. And I’ve ghosted people for a variety of reasons, often because I have a kid and people think they can dictate when and how I respond. I don’t see what’s wrong with not leaving an explanation. We’re not children, nor employees to these people, just acquaintances that ended up not meshing. I can accept that fully.
Some people just want to cut contact without a conflict. Its a cowardly selfish move but not everyone is into fighting and escalating a matter when they are adverse to it
Well I’ve read the various responses below, however I think it’s rude and immature. I think adults should be able to nicely tell another individual they just don’t care to interact with them for whatever reason they deem appropriate.

"And that's the way it is": Walter Cronkite's final sign off lol

Whatever… people are afraid… I don’t get it but they just are.
@NoGamesTolerated I completely accept and respect your response. The people who ghost out of fear may do so because they feel that authorities will not protect them and they consider the person they ghosted to be a violent maniac.
No way and i dislike when people do that.

It's what a coward does. People have a right to not like you or want to be with or around you. They don't have the right to lie and not even give you the respect as another human being to explain why.
@SW-User Good point. I dislike being ghosted. I only ghost people who I feel are psychotic and violent.

Ghosting is very rude and hurtful to others, at least give a reason why you dont want to communicate or be around them anymore. It can hurt a person more than you know.

I was under the impression that ghosting someone meant spontaneously disappearing from their life without any explanation, especially when it comes to phone calls and texting. what you describe just sounds like not wanting to associate with someone anymore, so gradually distancing yourself, which sucks when it happens, but is an unavoidable part of socializing.

I think ghosting is pretty rude. At the same time, as someone said below, some people don’t handle rejection graciously. some people become combative and even dangerous.
I just got ghosted a few hours after they said they loved me. I'm not sure what my purpose was in that 'relationship' but I guess I fulfilled it.

I don’t think ghosting is that bad. If you have only known someone for a few days or weeks and they ghost, then I don’t see any moral problem with that. It just means that s stranger on the internet isn’t into you. But if you invest months and years into someone and they ghost, yeah that’s pretty shitty.

Ok I'm old. What is ghosting? In my world it means somebody died and then haunted you but it means avoiding you right? Don't worry about it. It's their loss. Find someone who does want to be with you.

It was used as a form of abuse by the East German secret police to attempt to affect the sanity of politically ‘unreliable’ citizens.
@meJess Obviously, ghosting has increased greatly in popularity! It seems that many countries, cultures, and societies are now participating in the ghosting process. Thank you for your exceptional insight!

I hate when it happens to me but I do it all the time. Don't mean to, just suck at getting back to people

BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I like real ghosts especially this time of year
@BackyardShaman but what happens if you get ghosted by the ghost you wish to see? Not joking. I saw this telly show called "ghost hunters", they would visit abandoned buildings to search for ghosts but the ghosts never showed up.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
@SalamanderWolfWoman true they do that at times, also my ghosts are not the evil or mean ones, my main one is a man that died in 1879 suddenly that is looking for his horses, he’s quite friendly.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
It’s not a nice thing to do.
@iamonfire696 I respect your opinion. I only ghost people who are mean to me or behave like dangerous psychos.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@SalamanderWolfWoman I think that’s totally different. If they are mean to you or psychos then I block those people. You don’t have to take abuse.

It's often necessary. Gotta do it. Just did it two weeks ago at the bar.
@MethDozer I love your honesty!
