how the legal system works
loveIy · 26-30
How to pay taxes
How to get a mortgage
How to buy a house
How to buy a car
How to get a job

I could go on but I think you get my point.

@BrookeB123: woulda been more helpful than art class
loveIy · 26-30
@Socialclutz: And algebra. And languages.
Socialclutz · 36-40, M
Languages could be useful to some.. maybe kids should be able to choose their curriculum like a college setting...

Basic economics. How to live on a budget.
Basic politics. How to sort spin from fact.
Relationship skills. How to.....just about everything !
Parental responsibility. Everything from how to spot if your child is ill to how to get them legal support.
Basic home maintenance. You'd be surprised just how rarely you actually have to wire a plug but replace a fuse in the fusebox; stop a leak from your washer; what to do if your freezer suddenly goes kaput etc.
you know. REAL life skills.

I'd like to se them teach what I call practical economics. It would include money management, discussions about how to succeed in life, i.e. don't have babies until you can afford them cause if you do you'll be poor, don't expect a min wage job to support you, it wont. It seems common sense but that isn't common anymore so it needs to be taught.

At the time I didn't really care, but looking back I feel like all kids should be taught about personal finance and logic/reasoning skills

@puck61: That is taught in some schools now.
@Aidolovemostofyourthoughts: I think they should bring back Latin, rhetoric, and penmanship. Kids don't even have signatures anymore here.
SW-User
@puck61: Or spelling. :D But yeah I do agree, we're losing that art of penmanship.

@Babylon: Surprisingly, my little Catholic school taught that in P.E. 😊
We had a course called "Family Life" that had a day or two dedicated to everyday adult things like balancing a checkbook, writing a resume and interviewing for a job. I think that sort of thing (updated for the 21st century) would be helpful.
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard: Yeah. The day to day life skills would definitely be helpful.
