What's the saddest thing you've ever heard another person say?

nojudging · 61-69, M
Not what someone else said. The saddest thing I have ever said is, "It's too late." to my sons as I realized I could not revive my wife.

My son telling me he wouldn't see his Gigi anymore. Like he was predicting her death. But she's still alive. And still a bitch.

I went to a funeral for a family friend who died of skin cancer. His three young kids read things that they'll miss about him. The youngest, a little girl who was about 6, said she would miss a long list of things, like walking to 7/11 to get icees, drawing, playing games with him, etc., and she started crying. She finished reading and thanked everyone for listening and being there. It was very sad

Idk but one moment does come to mind. I made my childhood, lifelong friends all in 7th grade, when I got to junior high. I was the final member to join a group of oddball kids, assembled to give us strength in numbers against bullying. One of those kids was Jason Borden, he was such a good hearted doofus, corniest sense of humor, his jokes would make you groan and he would laugh this high pitched squeak. Years later, when we were almost 20, we would cruise up and down the main drag each night, laughing, acting stupid and occasionally hollering at pretty young women in his van. He was the only one of us who had a vehicle. He loved me a lot and would always drop me off last. One time, as he was dropping me off, his shoulders slumped and sadness washed over him as he said, I'm just the driver. I didn't say anything, I was overwhelmed. Wish I had told him otherwise.

A guy in his 70's I was talking to the other day, he was talking about something horrific that happened when he was 30, he ended with " and since that day I've just been dead inside "

"Look, a lucky penny! My daddy's here with me! He's here, he's here!" Does that make any sense because to you? Because that is the saddest thing I've ever heard.

"I want to die".

He died a day later.
