Trump. If he deregulatest industries it will allow for more economic growth.

Is that all it will do?
Smtwn829 · 36-40, M
@Ynotisay: no, it will also reduce government spending and work towards balancing the debt as well. Less regulations will mean less money spent trying to regulate. It will mean less government jobs but if a hole is created in a sector private businesses tend to fill in the hole. A private sector business also tends to be more efficient since it will develop to fast than a government entity.

@Smtwn829: that'd be good

@Smtwn829: OK. If you say so. But is there anything else that might come along with deregulation? Like maybe a down side?

If Trump does get rid of the department of education it will provide a boon to teachers. Education would restructure itself by state at a faster pace than on a federal level. Blended learning would become more prominent in classrooms as well. There could be a potential downside as many teachers may lose there job, or the opposite could happen and teachers shift into a roll of assistant to help students find and specialize in what they enjoy earlier. It could even do both depending on the situation of the state or even county or district. If you are referring to the power industry such as coal. Most of them have gone to barebones crews. Investors have shifted away since it costs more to operate. It would be likely to see a temporary surge in fossil fuels. Long term though it will likely be the same outcome and the usages of them will be reduced to almost nothing. With a limited supply of fossil fuels as more green tech is developed and becomes more efficient it is likely that most companies will transition to them for sustainability purposes.

@Smtwn829: OK. I guess it's the lens on which you see things. I think our downsides might be a little different.

But just to toss this out there, local and state governments oversee their school systems now. Trump is talking about block grants to states for vouchers. Not really a regulation issue other than the schools themselves won't be regulated.

Sort of like the banks, oil companies, developers and insurance companies if this administration gets what it wants. Getting rid of the EPA is another thing all together. Deregulation isn't just about opening revenue streams. Deregulation removes protections for people.

@Ynotisay: the vouchers can be a boon. Allowing students to attend their choice of schools can open up more options for educators to build more comprehensive platforms to teach from. I live in wyoming and we follow common core to get federal funding. If we didn't we would lose a large portion of our school systems funding. However common core is still pretty trash. It does not line students up properly to attain college readiness and the guidelines for it are behind what almost all of the teachers and staff in the district think. This can benefit schools in inner cities as well. Low performing schools will likely see a drop in budgets cause money will speak for the people. So the schools will have to setup their game. Creating competition will benefit both students and teachers. Right now there is a lack of accountability for teachers as it is. Poorly performing teaches will be under more scrutiny. Also saying that all student perform at the same level is a farce. There are some brilliant and dedicated student that get board after mastering their classes for the grade level. They then fail because there is no challenge and stop caring. It is like watching all your hard work not matter cause those around that don't put in the same effort get the same treatment and progress at the same rate. A straight A student will likely gradute at the same time a straight D student will. That's pretty insulting to a person's drive and intelligence.

@meganlee123: Did you catch the House bill introduced by the GOP about the EPA? Amazingly, I can share the ENTIRE legislative text.

H.R.861
“The Environmental Protection Agency shall terminate on December 31, 2018”

I'd say that's falls under the "anarchy kinda way."

And not to be disagreeable but I could go off for an hour about the differences between federal and state regulation. But I think it would be pointless. I will say though that I've never understood those who willingly fight to remove laws meant to protect them and choose instead to support those out to screw them. It's nonsensical to me. Not saying that's you. But it sure holds true for a lot of people.

@Ynotisay: I have mixed feelings about this myself. I am not sure how this will work or come out. But there is still 2 years to get to that point. On this we will just see what happens.

@Smtwn829: when comparing the the two student types, you've captured the essence of socialism. That's what schools have become.
Ynotisay · M
@Adogslife: I'll assume you don't know that the best educated countries in the world are socialist nations. Now you do.
Smtwn829 · 36-40, M
@Adogslife: are you saying I am a socialist? If so please explain.
