For me, I would say what we have in common. Common interests, beliefs, etc can bring people together and open communication.

we all have something in common. we all love fried chicken
ohplease · 46-50, F
@reubles: Well, let's just say some love a little harder than others.

As an ex-vegetarian, of twenty-three years, I stand behind reubles 100%. You people know nada. 🍗 🍗🍗

The first one.

I can talk to & get along with anyone so long as they're open. The people who think option two is more important tend not to be open, I find.
Sonnet · 41-45, F
@Serenitree: me too, absolutely. I am cursed, or blessed (depending on viewpoint) with being able to see all sides.
Serenitree · F
@Sonnet: I'd say blessed. People who can't see all sides of an issue are likely to make some huge miscalculations in life.

@Serenitree: *fingers crossed* you're right.

I think both are important. Having things in common is important because with nothing in common there's no way to connect, but we need to have some things about us that are just us. I don't want to be seen as a carbon copy of everybody else, do you?

Both are equally important
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
It depends. You can have a love for fried chicken in common, but they might be racist white people and you might be black.

You might not share the love of fried chicken, but both of you might share religious beliefs.
Sonnet · 41-45, F
@MartinTheFirst: I understand why you think it's a non-thing. Because we're from predominantly white countries. I never cared & i'm sure you didn't either. But you don't want to fall into the super double American trap.

People can be racist no matter what colour they are. This is a fact. Avoid pointing out race because it means nothing.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@Sonnet: sigh... pointing out race in this case was necessary and i will do it if I feel like it... I won't let other peoples assumptions dictate my words.
Sonnet · 41-45, F
@MartinTheFirst: it wasn't necessary though. You disappoint me, that sucks. Turns out that you're a lefty. C'est la vie I suppose.
