I can have a guess as to where that one might come from. If you have a cat and you move house, you 'butter it up' - smear butter on its paws - so that it settles in more readily and doesn't go back to the old house. It will assiduously lick the butter from its paws and all the time it is doing this it is settling in to its new surroundings. That's the theory anyway! 😺👅😻

I heard once that it comes from an ancient custom in India of throwing balls of butter at the feet of statues of gods to get good favor.
I wasn’t there so I’m not sure, but I suspect that if you actually slathered someone with butter , you’d definitely make an impression. Maybe not the one you want though.

I've always found it enjoyable, particularly if the butter is warmed first..

Jesus, this one sounds so wrong. 😂 Ffs, I can't be the only one recalling that Marlon Brando scene when hearing it.

So "Tossing a salad" really involves gently mixing ingredients, usually with tongs or clean hands, to evenly distribute the dressing without bruising the leaves!?

@valobasa4ever To most people, yes. If it had some disgusting dressing (ranch come to mind but YMMV) it could also mean dropping it in the trash.

No, but if one were to dally with cannibalism...
