I used to believe that unless I had people around me to celebrate my birthday, it wasn't really a birthday. I NEEDED a cake, and birthday presents, just like a little kid. My son has amply demonstrated to me that the cake and the gifts, and even his presence are just not happening most years...so now I make plans for my OWN tiny little celebration of my OWN special day.

@4meAndyou One of the best birthdays I had happened after we got a foot and a half of snow and got snowed in. My birthday was on a Thursday and I wanted to take Thursday and Friday off to rest and do things after I got rested. I had a lead who didn’t want us to take off for any reason because he’d have to turn his hand to fill in for us and do minimal amount of work at that. But what happened was the day before my birthday it started snowing, and snowing heavily. The forecast hadn’t indicated it would be that much snow. By afternoon break we were told to stay in the break room and wait. The supervisor called us and told us they were letting employees go home rather than risk getting stuck in the snow. So we got off 2 hours early and they shut down the university the next two days. I was stuck at home by myself and couldn’t get my car out until a resident at our apartments volunteered to use his tractor & blade to clear our parking spaces and a way out of the apartments to the closest street so we could get out and that happened on Sunday afternoon. I had a Web Tv at home and spent one whole day surfing the Web Tv sites and signing up for freebies and chatting on chat lines and my favorite message boards. I had plenty of food and made what I wanted to eat, baked things etc. On Saturday the sun was shining and I got out and walked to a 7-11 store about a mile and a half from my apartment. I got snacks and a drink to take home, rented a couple videos to watch and got the early edition of the Sunday OKC newspaper. I had my little cat for company and called a couple people to talk. I hadn’t felt that rested in a long time. I felt like someone was watching out for me with us having that snow storm. It was pretty rare to have a couple inches on the ground much less a foot and a half of snow.
