In praise of otium

Having free time is priceless, and if not handled properly can make things demonstrably worse. But with care and sobriety of intent can be the blessing of blessings.

Leisure to study what interests you, in a relaxed manner discoveries may come more naturally, rather than in a impatient state of mind.

In my case I have a lifetime of material stored in a little device, the internet on my lap, and Similar Worlds to share what I find or deem fit to share, often however SW is for digression, to lend context to the learning process, and indeed I can learn from you fine people too, it should come as no surprise to me that people just simply being themselves in no matter what circumstances can give me more insight into my own problems than whole books can.

To slow down and appreciate, how many more happy moments there can be, how many less perplexing ones?

Be gentle but firm in your resolve to improve yourself, for none have arrived yet, and the desire for improvement is all you need to get on track to actual improvement. Otium, or leisure is a sure fire path to it, but not the only way.

For busy people, there can be set apart portions of time in the 3 main sections of the 24 hour period, in some ways this can help sharpen the focus more than if all you have is free time.

Be blessed with the vision you hold dear, and make every day a step or more towards it.
