What has being a woman meant to you in this lifetime?

It meant I had to be tough or I'd always be picked on and harassed for doing what I like to do. It means I am always hyper vigilant and carry several weapons. Always know an escape route. It meant I could have my son. It meant cancer. I hope as I age that it starts to mean something different. I am tired. I just want to be. But truth is, for me, being a woman hasn't been simple.

It’s been complicated. My mother once told me that men and women are at core simply human beings, who have much more in common than not. I believed her then and still do.

But the world for the most part doesn’t want to acknowledge it. Divisions serve the powers that be much more, and this is just another.
