Why do random idiots send messages out of nowhere that say "hey nice to meet you" when they have not met me?

Yes, unfortunately. And it is even more annoying when you ask why have you messaged me? Have you read my about me section? And all you get in reply is their fantasy of you, Errrrrrrrrr!
