What are your thoughts on gen x?

BlueVeins22-25
marginally less bad than the boomer generation

Alright, who is "GenX" this week?
They keep changing these things on a regular basis.
When I was growing up "Baby Boomers" were the kids born after WWll and through the 50s, now I'm a Boomer, and I was born in the late 60s.
I know, go ahead and say it........ "you were born in the 1900s?"
deadgerbil22-25
@calicuz yeah boomer kind of grew in its meaning

Kinda how my generation is usually called millennials even though actual millennials are like around late 30s

If you're born in the late 60's then you'd be a Gen X-er.

I've lots of thoughts. Lost most of my friends. Highest suicide rate of any generation. Which is unusual as usually the oldest generation has this statistic ..

Anyway, gen x has little TV or movies or anything marketed towards them. Too small a population compared to the others so mostly ignored.

Caught between different worlds, different ideals. Free love vs aids, love and be free vs abductions. Not always true, but it's what was believed.

Thought they were worse off than any other generation, until the student debt of millennials kicked in.
Trekker51-55, M
@MethDozer a few iconic movies and shows that died. 15 years of sporadic content compared to boomer and millennial content? Please. It's a drop of almost nothing compared to their parents and children.
MethDozerM
@Trekker Nah, it's actually the opposite. It was so saturated that there's not as much that stood out and become classics. Being the age I am I watched, listend to, and loved all the GenX media and it was satrurated.

Also it is worth noting that GenX was a genration of "scenes", authenticity, and anticonsumerism so being marketed to was kinda of wasted endeavor. Being commercial media marketed to GenX was kind of garunteed failure story. GenX's most lasting impression on American Culture is in underground music and art and various scenes such as Punk, Goth, Industrial, Metal, etc.

It wasn't GenX wasn't marketed to or marketed to less. It was that GenX rejected what was marketed to them as it was considered fake, sell out, consumerist bullshit. Which is the coolest part of GenX.
Trekker51-55, M
@MethDozer my point I think. A handful of memorable movies or shows, music that is mostly pushed to footnotes.

How many punk rock bands are in the hall of Fame? How many bands from gen-x in general compare to others? Sure, there's input and influence and impact. But compared against others?

60s baby Boomer culture had more of an impact on society, music, tv, etc than anything other than Amazon from gen x.

The generation that's just kinda there. Way less obnoxious discourse around them compared with millennials, boomers, and zoomers. And that's not a bad thing.

I liked the Grunge music part, and the movies Reality Bites and Singles. Other avenues such as the intelligentsia i haven't explored too much though, but would be interesting to get around to. I was in my late teens during the 90's, very fond memories.
