Admittedly I bought it five years ago but my portable' phone cost me about £40 = $48 US at today's rate.
It replaced a so-called "smart"-'phone, an LG2017, that had cost about twice that but was still under $100.
Given inflation its latest equivalent will cost more now, but not ten times as much!
Even my computer, a DELL factory rebuild I bought earlier this year, cost much less than half that Apple 'phone.
