What exactly leads people to start taking drugs? Share your thoughts?

Problems, troubles, struggle and various types of stess, everyone has to face it. The ones filthy rich today, even they had to face all types of challenges once to get to where they are today. Even if you figure out a short-cut to success, it won't be a cakewalk.

Then, why some folks become completely hopeless and find solace in drugs? I don't like drug-addicts at all.

My friend was a drug-addict. Despite the continuous efforts of his family and some friends, to keep him away from drugs, he would figure out the way to buy some form intoxication and be high. He escaped from rehab thrice. He was under the observation of good Doctors and Therapists.

I parted ways with him because I had no other option left. I asked him to choose either drugs or my friendship. He chose drugs. I never saw him again.

1st: Let me say that no matter how hard you try to help someone, they wont stop using until they are sick and tired of being sick and tired.

2nd: Most of us start with casual use. Something we do occasionally, once and a while. Then you find yourself using more often, until one day you realize you're addicted.

3rd: Once addicted the disease takes over and takes control. It doesn't just control the body's physical need and desire for the drug, it controls your mind, convincing you that you'll never amount to much more, that this is it, this all your life will ever be and you may as well accept it. The disease convinces you you're worthless, unable to stop and no will want you now that you're an addict.

4th: I'm sorry you hate me. Because while I'm sober now, I will always be an addict. Being an addict isn't fun, it's not something we want to grow up to be. There were times I asked God why I was chosen to live this life. A life of dependency on Alcohol and drugs. The only thing God kept telling me, every time I asked him was, your the only one you know that would come out of that alive. Everyone you know would have died out there. You are the only one strong enough to conquer such a thing.
So far I am conquering.

@calicuz I like you OG. You were addict in the past. You had faith in God, you battled the addiction and got rid of it. So, you're good. It all happened because you didn't let the will to quit die. Good Job! Respect for you.😇

I have issues with those who never stop like my old friend.

I think you judge the individual, and determine if they need jail or rehab.

As far as the war on drugs: Tell me how we can defeat a war machine like the Nazi Army in 1945, yet we can't stop a few "Drug Lords?"
There is no real war on drugs, only rich men getting richer under the guise of a fictitious war.

There are different stages to addiction, some are not ready to stop, some are ready, but can't on their own, and some will never stop until they are dead.
Your friend wasn't ready to stop, so he chose the addiction over you.
Continue to pray for your friend, it's all you can do for an addict some times.
