If you a job that pays $19 a hr, would you get the vaccine to keep your job?

I’m torn on if I should get it or not

My job pays a lot more than that, and although there is no requirement, we are all vaccinated.

We are in the biotech field though, no real excuse for being an uneducated luddite.

@QuixoticSoul I have seen two people severely injured within minutes of taking the vaccine… An aneurysm and a blood clot. In the small number of people that I know those odds are way too risky for me
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Shaveit Well out of the hundred+ vaccinated people I know nobody has had an issue, and nobody knows anyone who has either - but both of these scenarios are anecdotal and mean Jack shit in the grand scheme of things.

@QuixoticSoul
But the fact remains that you stand a 99.7% chance of survival
why do you need a vaccine?
you can still get the virus
you can still die of the virus and
you can still spread the virus how stupid can you be it’s like not getting a vaccine it all
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Shaveit You have a 99.999+% chance of survival with a vaccine 🤷‍♂️

You’re less likely to get the virus, you’re less likely to develop symptoms if you do get it, less likely to develop long term side effects, less likely to spread it, less likely to end up in the hospital, and much less likely to die. You can also travel freely, go to bars, etc. I am relatively young and healthy so I am not terribly concerned about my personal covid risk, but I’m even less concerned about the inconsequentially low risk of vaccine, and like with all partially effective vaccines, it’s better for society the more folks are vaccinated.
My friend got vaccinated and still got covid, now she has a $21,000 medical bill. Thankfully she's recovering but imagine how much worse it could have been. Getting covid in the US and being unvaccinated could leave you bankrupt.
Shaveit · 61-69, M
@aboveaverageaveragejoe Do you have a 99.7% chance of surviving Covid… There’s nothing to say that she would’ve even gotten Covid without the shot. There’s no proof the shot does anything you still can get Covid, you can still transmit Covid, and you can still die from Covid. And you have a chance the shot will kill you why add that into the combination
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Shaveit Your risk analysis is highly flawed.
Shaveit · 61-69, M
@QuixoticSoul I have not slowed down through the covid scamdemic. Planes full NO DISTANCING. Exposed to 100s of none vaxxed. And I’m still here. I know at least 50 people that got sick from the vax. 1 is now a vegetable and the other is barely recovering.
Fact vax DOES NOT PREVENT COVID
Fact vax DOES NOT PREVENT SPEADING COVID
Fact vax DOES NOT PREVENT DRATH FR COVID
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Shaveit 50 people 🤣

@Shaveit This, statistically, is sampling error. It is real to the people obviously, but subjective observation skews because it is not dispassionate. Those two stick in your brain, but there are a host of reasons that ocurred. Your bubble of obervees may have higher morbidities/similarities, coincidence, just plain bad luck (e.g. while a coin toss will be 50-50 overall, there will still be runs of heads or tails in the short term), etc

@Shaveit In the same way that seatbelts don't 100% prevent deaths in car crashes. They still prevent most of them, therefore you're probably wearing one.

@Shaveit Seatbelts do occasionally kill you, in a rare sort of crash you’re better off without one - and people with poor risk assessment skills use that to argue against seatbelt laws.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Shaveit Not really. In rare cases (probably less rare than clinically-significant vaccine reactions), seatbelts can actually lower your chance of survival. For instance if you end up with your vehicle in a body of water and in the panic can't unfasten it.

It's quite apt as a comparison, whether you like it or not.
Shaveit · 61-69, M
@QuixoticSoul But not by just putting it on sitting down and putting it on and die that happens with vaccines

And you have a choice to undo a damn seatbelt. Go on and undo that vaccine!
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Shaveit No analogy is a 100% fit, but the seatbelt crusaders are driven by the same sort of stupid.
Shaveit · 61-69, M
@QuixoticSoul An analogy actually has to have some sort of relevance an equal comparison. Yes you do have a certain sort of stupid
