Is 31 years too old an age to get one's life together?

As I mentioned in a previous post I am in the process of trying to move out of NYC. I have about $6,000 saved up and abut $1,000 in my checking account. Also have some small debt to pay off. I know at 31 (will be 32 in 2 months) that is not a lot. I started working at 26, I know it is very very late, wish I started working earlier. Have been helping parents with rent and been a bit reckless with my money. Something I am working on.

I have 2 older siblings, whom I thought would be more helpful with assisting my parents but they have not. They both make almost twice as much as I do, but they also have been reckless with money lol. Guess it runs in the family. The difference with me is I have spent between $400-$500 a month for the past 3-4 years with helping my parents with rent. That is money I could have saved. Can't say the same with my siblings, I mean they help out once in a while.

My Mom fell twice and hurt her back and is unable to work. My Dad and Brother work but due to covid they are collecting unemployment checks. I am lucky enough to work from home, and my Sister is in the medical field.

As I am trying to get my life in tact my sister who is about 6 years older than me has been asking me for money occasionally. Mind you she makes about $90,000 a year. I make around $45,000. I know I have been reckless with money, but if I made that much, I would have so much saved up. The issue with her and my older brother who is about 9 years older is they spend so much money on things they don't need. My sister has like a 10x25 storage space filled with things she's ordered online and is still ordering things. My Brother buys very expensive things and barely uses them.

I have friends who I see traveling, buying cars, getting apartments etc... I wish I could do that. I know social media can be deceiving, and some are probably in a similar situation. I accept responsibility for screwing up my life. And I am trying to get it back together.

31 ? No, that’s not too old at all. People have reinvented themselves a lot later in life than that. It sounds like you have a lot of good common sense and are responsible, so you should do well.
