Why do employers try to find fault?

I work 2 jobs and am very contentious at both. I'm getting so tired of the fact that when we have a monthly performance meeting they are picking the most minor things to critique.
Why do managers do this? Today after telling me that I had 86 good reviews this month she ends with telling me that I need to sound more confident because I'm conveying hesitancy. Well Im being recorded while working and Im trying to do my best. Sheesh

Even when they praise, they soon have to follow up with something about how you are screwing up.

My advise to anyone is - don't show them your full potential because then they will expect it all the time. "Full potential" for anything is not sustainable anyways.

They are going to pick at SOMEthing no matter what. Not sure why.

I just figure if I have not been told to leave yet, I must be doing something right.
I am one of those who is just there for a paycheck. I "meet expectations" and that is good enough for me.

@CestManan I hate this idea because I am a perfectionist at heart but you are damn right and every so often I need to remind myself that Im not there to obtain praise or to be the best in their eyes.
I'm only there for $$$$$$
