Why are people proud of me for working in a grocery store?

I’m 24 years old. I work in a grocery store for 5 years now. I have my own car and pay my own bills, do online classes, but still live with my parents. My cousins, aunt, and uncle say they are proud of me for having a job, car, do school and pay my own bills. I feel like any schmuck can get a low paying job, get a car, go to school, and pay their own bills. Why the praise?

Many people work yet can’t afford a car. I know people who struggle with their bills on a regular basis. Acknowledging that you are taking proper care of yourself isn’t a strange thing to hear from a supportive family.

@Mrsbetweenfatandfit I don’t have time to care about self worth. Work is only a means of survival.

@VulcanGalaxy self worth happens with everyday tasks really. Sounds to me you’re just making your own mental well being a priority. Life is a lot more than bills, eating & sleeping. I hope you choose to try some of the other neat stuff there is to experience.
