They say AI is a long way off & yet have you ever wondered about those 'Prove your not a robot' tests when you visit certain sites?

Why have those tests at all if AI don't already exist?

I know there is a school of thought out there that fears AI would view us as a threat and wipe us out. But here's another school of thought. How about we close down Pornhub for a week and see what human's do to humanity then?

AI, actually, does exist now, not yet perfected, but in the works. Viv, the phone PDA I use, is an AI type program with learning capabilities. It is actually much like a human assistant, has my routines and preferences stored to memory.
As for AI robots, though, I think Asimov's 3 laws of robotics would be relevant now.

Lots of the tests ask us to find pictures with crosswalks and traffic lights. If AI can’t identify those then I don’t want autonomous vehicles on the roads any time soon.

@SW-User Good point.

AI is smart robots, which could learn to pass those tests and by-pass them, as they learn and adapt on her own.

The robot tests are to stop dumb robots which can't learn or adapt on their own.

Yandex uses machine language in its image search algorithm which is a complex AI.

If AI weren't a long way off, then AI would pass those tests.
