The harp or the harpsichord

Do they both have strings? I forget what the difference is. They're being pulled either way.

Yes they both have strings; but the harpsichord (also known as cembalo) is a keyboard instrument (like the piano), where the strings resonate as a result of impact by a small piece of wood, whereas the strings of a harp are plucked by a (usually female) hand.
[edit: user @uncalled4 kindly informed me that in a harpsichord the strings are set in vibration by plucking, and not by a mallet. ]

@helenS I thought that the strings were plucked by a mechanism as the harpsichord is played, but a mallet hits a string on the piano.
