The harp or the harpsichord

Do they both have strings? I forget what the difference is. They're being pulled either way.
The harpsichord is a piano, the harp is a plucked string instrument.

Pianos are dynamic in play, harps tend to only have a single play style.

Harpguitars are the most interesting combination of stringed instruments I've ever known. Brilliance of Orville Gibson, and yes, the same Gibson that eventually became a household name in the electric guitar biz. Of course, Orville sold his business and likeness (that's Orville's signature on every headstock) to a pair of siblings back before it became a thriving business; he had passed on before such would come to pass.

Thanks Orville. 🤘

Yes they both have strings; but the harpsichord (also known as cembalo) is a keyboard instrument (like the piano), where the strings resonate as a result of impact by a small piece of wood, whereas the strings of a harp are plucked by a (usually female) hand.
[edit: user @uncalled4 kindly informed me that in a harpsichord the strings are set in vibration by plucking, and not by a mallet. ]

@helenS I thought that the strings were plucked by a mechanism as the harpsichord is played, but a mallet hits a string on the piano.

@uncalled4 Yes you are right - I apologize. 😬
I will change my reply accordingly. 🌷

Forgive my ignorance all, I'm just a drummer 😂

@Plumouter Me too. And since a mallet hits a string, the piano is a percussion instrument lol

@Plumouter Drummers are the driving force behind most modern music.
