Primary item on my bucket list is to buy myself a property of some sort even if it's just a modest small cosy house on a modest block of dirt. I'm 51 now and have set myself a target to achieve that by the time I'm 60. I did own a house once (with my first ex partner) but for the last 11 or so yrs I've rented.

@SW-User Yep at present it'll take me that long to be able to save enough to afford a place of my own. I'd need at least a 20 pct deposit and the median house price in this part of Australia is well over A$500k. In Sydney it's double that (over $1 million). And property values will go up not down due to inflation, etc. unless the world financial system has a 1930's style collapse. So I'll need to save at least $100k.

@SW-User Well at my age it is. Effectively with things how they are now for me I'll be looking to plan for retirement when I'm looking to buy my own place to live. I'd be very happy with a bush property and nothing but a shed and a caravan as my 'house' if that was achievable. I don't need or want a McMansion. My last ex has now paid off her house that she bought in 2007. I'm paying off someone elses. Kinda sucks.
