Does the Corona Virus have you worried Financially?

I am 30 yrs old living with my parents and brother. I work as a graphic designer and currently working from home. I am pretty worried because I have no money saved up and no money currently in my bank account. I had $771 last Friday but spent it all on a fun weekend. Something I 1000% regret now. My Dad (mom is retired) and brother have enough money to sustain us for a while. I get paid this Friday and will have around $500 in my account which is good. Though I am able to work from home, because of the virus many of our clients have canceled a lot of their events which has put many of our projects on hold. So I am not sure how long I'll be able to work. This makes me realize that I have wasted 10 yrs of my life doing nothing. I've only been working for 5 yrs, and in those 5 yrs besides helping my parents with rent. I should've at least saved a few thousand dollars. I have no one to blame but myself. I don't have a car, girl friend, nothing. I see guys in their early 20's doing a lot better than me. Living the life I wish I had. When we make it through this I am definitely going to get my life together. Anxiety and Depression has crippled my life. But this event has been a turning point in my life. After this I am really going to start living life. And live up to the potential that most people know I have.

Just out of curiosity, what did you spend $771 on in one weekend? It sounds to me like you're doing a decent job of making money; $26K a year is rough, but far above the poverty line. It sounds like you just need to get a lot better at spending it wisely. If you like what you do as an artist, I think you've done well professionally.

@BlueVeins You're are 100% right. I haven't been spending my money wisely. I spent the money on partying and women. Something I am not proud of. In my early 20's I lived a safe life and now that I am older. I've decided to break free.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@kydflash So are you going to move out after the pandemic ends?
kydflash · 31-35, M
@BlueVeins I started a t shirt business with my partner in Minnesota. The plan is for me to move there so we can move the company forward faster. He also said the job market is a lot better there. So i can also make more money. Living in NYC is tough.

I think you've been spending your money in an immature way. I earn less than you, I'd never throw away 700 for a weekend, I can't afford something like that.
But I'm worried too about this coronavirus financial situation, I'm trying to work a bit from home (instead of office) but it will end up that I'm going to earn very little this March. And maybe this mess will go on for months.
Also I was looking for a new job and in this situation it's completely impossible to find one.

@Giacomo Yeah, I have definitely been immature with my money. Something I regret so much. Unfortunately things might get worse before it gets better. I wish you and everyone else the very best. Hopefully you'll be able to find a new job. Best of wishes.
Giacomo · 36-40, M
Thanks to both. @kydflash You're still young enough anyway (I'm "young" too) to have better times. Let's hope.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
No, but I'm sick of all the friggin panic buyers grabbing everything in grocery store that isn't tied down...🙄
kydflash · 31-35, M
@wildbill83 Agreed, I know the situation is serious. But panicking won't help us.

Don't beat yourself up, move forward and do better in the future👍

@SW-User Will do, thank you 😊

@JAYS21 I have been practicing throwing since I was a young girl. When I throw it it will stick. My knives are ground and polished on both sides of the blade.

No. Like any other cycle. There are ups and downs - have been for 100+ years with the stock market. After winter there is spring and after downs there are ups. Nothing new.....
kydflash · 31-35, M
@tennisdad True, I just hope things get better soon.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
Some good can come from almost any situation. I wish you the best of luck in the future.
kydflash · 31-35, M
@SweetMae Thank you very much, Likewise.

Work hard. Save money.

Life can sometimes be that simple. Spending your time worrying instead of working will get you fired.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
No I work from home and the paychecks will keep coming.
I'm worried for other reasons
kydflash · 31-35, M
@FreeSpirit1 I work from home as well, just worried about people who are unable to do the same.
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
Well. I’m 43 and it doesn’t really get much better.
kydflash · 31-35, M
@Chevy454 Glad to hear all is well.

I can relate to a point but I don't regret my decisions that much. I realized that my values were and are quite different from most people's values my age. And certain things can't be forced.
Of course I am worried. We can't know where will this situation lead us. Even if you have money nobody can guarantee that it is safe.
kydflash · 31-35, M
@CrazyMusicLover That's true, well said
Platinum · M
Not for me, I'm retired and my pension is paid in regularly every month...so no change for me....but kydflash this may teach you to manage your money better and help you in the future..hope you get through this without too many problems...
kydflash · 31-35, M
@Platinum Good to hear all is well, and yes it most definitely thought me to manage my money better. I have been really reckless in the past with my finances and it has cost me dearly. Fortunately I am a graphic designer and now work from home. Thank you.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Wouldn't matter if you had.
Few folk have disposable income on a scale that would amount to anything like a years salary.
And God forbid you were to fall ill and were unable to work. That wouldn't sustain you for long
kydflash · 31-35, M
@Picklebobble2 I see what you mean, but to have a few thousand saved up would be really helpful.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@kydflash Salaries haven't kept pace with either inflation nor prices. They rarely do !
I've worked all my life. For the last three, for myself rather than other companies.

Never yet been able to save more than about 5K.as a disposable sum.
rottenrobi · 56-60, F
I have no idea what to expect right now. I'm a single mom with 3 teenagers. I would be stupid not worry about money, but I can't obsess about it. We will live frugally, stay home, and see what the future holds.
kydflash · 31-35, M
@rottenrobi Sorry to hear that, hopefully things get better soon and governments step up to help those in need financially. I wish you the vey best.
rottenrobi · 56-60, F
@kydflash So far, we're good. There will be many people in my same situation, or worse. I definitely am hoping for the best possible outcome for all of us.
I wish you the very best too.
helenS · 36-40, F
I don't have money anyway. Money is for fuck-offers.

@helenS "fuck-offers" what are these things you speak of?
helenS · 36-40, F
@Johnblackthorn Guys to whom I would say "Fuck off!"
Johnblackthorn · 56-60, M
@helenS damn, that's actually self explanatory.
monte3 · 70-79, M
I am extremely worried about the financial effects of all this. More on my kids and their families than me but yeah real worried.
kydflash · 31-35, M
@monte3 I really hope things start getting better and the government can support people financially.
Johnblackthorn · 56-60, M
Use your past as a lesson for your long prosperous future, otherwise it really was a waste.
kydflash · 31-35, M
@Johnblackthorn Will do, thank you
no . the market will bounce back and I can take this hit without worrying
Steve42 · 56-60, M
I'm luckky. I work in IT and I can telework.
Earthwrap · 41-45, M
You are victim to the system which is put in place by people like you and me. A system which has continually gotten out of control as money accumulates at the top without regulation and victimizes us even more. The answer is to stand strong against the unethical shitty dystopia world that is wrong and everyone is afraid to admit.
kydflash · 31-35, M
@questionWeaver Thank you
tennisdad · 41-45, M
Go to a Tony Robbins seminar and get off SW - you need to use your time more wisely than spending it here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Geez
