Would you choose to trust someone who says they'd give advice if needed but not help any further?

That's too vague

@scooogy Oh okay, so she's refusing to hear more about your issues? Or refusing to be in the middle of conflict between you and your father? Assuming she knows your father as well

@offingg All she said so far was that in my situation with the fellow students she'd give advice but not help any further, which in my case would have meant to actively help with learning for exams.

@scooogy Hm, maybe she has a lot on her plate, if you're good friends then it shouldn't be a problem to dig deeper and ask to get to the bottom of it
Depends on the circumstances. But generally even when I ask for advice, it doesn’t mean I want someone to intercede or interfere. That’s different.

@bijouxbroussard The thing is that I sense her to expect the same from others, but on the other hand I experience her annoyed at her workplace and would like to help her, but now that she said this, I always fear going too far with her.
