A Poem Written About A Very Dark Night

180ft

It started with a drink so red,
which turned into a monster.
One that crawled along this skin
till it held tightly like a mother.
It stumbled up to kiss the sky
outside a door that never opened
yet swung wide to give a feast of
a freedom not oft afforded.
Projected like an astral being
unseen by this sleeping city.
Heard less than the piteous Ophelia
throwing flowers for her father.
So too, like this lady weeping,
a river of tears waited below.
Ready to embrace the boy
and give respite to his woes.

Every whisper moved this mountain
and tap, a nail into this coffin
being built to hold the screaming
and accept the other lover.
Who's distant echoed bleating
dangled from the ledge and
waited for the winter wind
to keep the promise ever after.
She called from at the bottom
of every bottle he laid to rest,
reaching from the earth below
to finally come home.
A heart made from stone,
meant so to sink far below the current,
chose not to keep his vows that night
and closed the door behind him.
