@SW-User Yes. He did stop physically abusing me, because I had not only called the police several times but also threatened to call the police when I saw him going after my son. I think he realized that he could torment me in other ways, and he began gaslighting me. He would say something really horrible and a minute later swear he had never said it. It was bad.

@4meAndyou After seven years of torment I left him finaly but suffered from complex post traumatic stress,it lasted a long time and affected me in many ways,I could no longer make decisions and my self esteem was at zero,my judgement was affected as well.It affected my work.Those people destroy lives.

@SW-User "You have met evil"...I believe I was married to it. I had a nightmare a while back. I was in a hell of dirt and overflowing toilets. I was trying to clean it all but then the toilets started overflowing and I couldn't clean all of it. I had to climb up a slippery chute to get out of there, and when I arrived at the top a man was standing there, and I knew he was the devil. He was smirking, and he had a red beard and red hair just like the ex.
Fortunately, I believe that I also have a guardian angel watching over me, because even in that nightmare he arrived and whisked me away, apologizing for being late.

@SW-User Yes, I feel safe now. But for a long time I was paranoid. He was so sick he even coated the inside of one of my drinking glasses with an extremely bitter, clear coating that wouldn't wash off. I didn't know what it was, and I even wondered if it was poisonous, because he had mentioned rhododendron buds to me and asked me if I knew they were poisonous.
I had a friend drink from the glass to confirm that it had that taste to it, and he confirmed it, and suggested I clean the inside of the glass with bartender's friend, (a type of abrasive cleanser). Cleanser removed the coating. But that's the kind of sick thing he used to do.
After I moved in here, the thick plastic washing bowl in my kitchen sink had a triangle carefully cut out of the bottom, which could not have happened by accident under any circumstance...and even though it was five years later, I thought of him immediately. I didn't feel safe again until they installed a camera in the hallway right outside my door. He is a coward to the nth degree, and he would only torment me if he thought he could never be caught.
