Are there less stars coming out at night or is my eyesight just getting worse?

I was having a late night stroll last night round 9pm. It was a clear night, the moon was bright. It should have been easy to find the North star and the Southern Cross.. But nope. I could barely find Orion's belt. And its not like I live in the city so I should have seen them all.

The sky rotates all through the year. So stars you see in the winter may not be visible in the summer
