Do You Ever Find Writing to be a Bit Like Skinny-dipping?

I like to write, I just don't always want people to, you know... see it!
Sierra14 · 16-17, F
i hate writing but don't care who sees me naked
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@Sierra14 Ok, what about writing? I mean when someone sees you without clothing, they see you naked on the outside. Have you ever tried to let someone see you naked on the inside? That's where writing becomes a challenge for me.
Sierra14 · 16-17, F
@GerOttman I'm not good at writing
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@Sierra14 Do you have other ways of expressing your thoughts? DO you have any creative outlets? Music, dance, art?

I've written quite a lot but it's all been technical in nature and mostly signed by someone else ! As long as I'm not recognised I don't mind being seen skinny dipping either😃

@BarboraK I'm ok with the sharing part, it's the quality that often is more concerning to me. Which is what made me think of the skinny-dipping comparison.

Indeed. Some things are just private and not for the masses to devalue.
lubovont · 70-79, M
@Magenta "not for the masses to devalue" that's a great statement

@lubovont Thank you.

Yes, both can lead to overexposure

Lol yes. I write a lot. I just keep it to myself
Definitely! I love writing, I love how words come together and create something so much more. Its like taking a leap of faith when you share. Will you fly or fall. That's hard.

@StormInaTeacup I find it interesting how different people react to a bit of creative writing. I've posted stuff in various places and gotten widely differing opinions. I particularly value negative responses. It shows me that not only did the person read it, they felt strongly enough about it to respond!
@GerOttman constructive criticism is always helpful, but it is nice to get positive reviews too.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@StormInaTeacup It doesn't always have to be constructive. What I mean is, when someone likes it they may respond with "I enjoyed this, or nice story". When someone dislikes something they will often become much more elaborate in their response. They invest much more time and thought into the response. It's kind of gratifying to me when someone feels strongly enough to do that.

As a writer, I know EXACTLY what you mean. As a skinny-dipper, well... yes
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@lubovont What do you write?
lubovont · 70-79, M
@GerOttman my career was in Public Relations. Now I write fiction for pleasure
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@lubovont I dabble in home made scifi. I have a bunch of little pieces to a longer story, every now and then I try to stitch a few together.

This has always been a place of over exposure.
yup.

be discreet is my motto.
I've written a half dozen stories here then I delete. My attempts at erotica leave me flaccid.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@Grateful4you erotica is a tough nut to crack. it's very personal, what arouses one person does nothing for another. I've dabbled in sci-fi. They are similar, I think, in that it's easy to get bogged down in technical details and loose the compelling aspects of a good story.
@GerOttman I admire folks with a flair for language. I have a book in my head. In fact the characters have become all but familiar friends it's just that I'm lazy, always waiting for inspiration that I fully understand only comes when you put the hand to paper and one idea starts to follow another.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@Grateful4you Very similar to how I feel. I have a book in my head, I've written a few disjointed paragraphs that I'm pretty happy with. I just don't have the skills to write all the stuff that ties it together in a way that makes an interesting read. I have the vocabulary and I know where the commas go, but the start to finish compelling story telling is an obstacle.
