Would you buy a Nelson Mandela coin?

I noticed more and more people in South Africa are hunting down and trading Nelson Mandela R5 coins.

One coin was released in 2008 to celebrate Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday and another was released last year (2018) as a Commemorative coin after his death.

A limited number of these coins have been released, but I don't know the exact amount though.

Would you purchase such a coin?

Below are examples of the 2 types of coins...

I like both of the coins you've displayed, especially the top one. Whether or not I'd purchase one would depend a lot on the cost.

@Rutterman Yeah I was just on the SA Mint website and besides the ones I posted, they also have other Collectible Nelson Mandela coins... which are rather pricey lol.

I have seen some like the one's I posted on bidorBuy website for R6000 👀

@iMystery I see. They are pretty expensive. Might have to pass.

@Rutterman 🤣 I think some people are trying to capitalise with such high prices... the 2008 one is going for around +-R1000... the 2018 coin I have seen going for about R400-R600.
A group of auzzies walking down the street in Africa . And spot a pub with a sign out front ‘FREE NELSON MANDELA..
So that walked in and ordered 3...

I'd probably grab one for my collection - but not a set unless there's something uniquely different about each coin in the set.

@HootyTheNightOwl Yeah there are other 4-coin and 5-coin sets which are extremely rare too, besides the ones I posted.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase it but it’d be pretty cool if I got my hands on one

@NickiHijab I had 3 on separate occasions, but had no idea it was becoming as valuable and in demand as it is now.

And just by chance I actually got my hands on one this morning 😁
