What are your thoughts on capital punishment?

Let me know, if you're pro or against death penalty and why.

Completely against. The idea of someone losing their life, the only life they'll ever have, because of a miscarriage of justice is absolutely horrifying to me. It's bad enough that actual criminals are killed.

@GlassDog I completely agree with you. Whatever the wrongdoing I think law shoud be about protecting human life, whether this life belongs to a victim or the offender.

@JaggedLittlePill Ahh, I just think that killing someone (anyone, including a criminal) means that we have given up on finding solutions, and in some ways, given up on humanity.

@GlassDog fair enough !

morally, i’m for it in capital cases. however, since states regularly show prejudices, and sometimes convict innocent people, i am effectively against the death penalty.

No place for it in a civilized society
EvilFairy · 18-21, F
you can only use it on high crimes like treason or a public terror attack where there isnt even the slightest question who did this.

for petty murder no matter how gruesome there is always a hint of doubt and it cannot possibly be an option
gol979 · 41-45, M
@EvilFairy who decides the perpetrators and meaning of "high crime"? If we do that then Julian assange would be handed a death penalty for journalism. I would say it's a dangerous slope but we are already 3/4 of the way down
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
I am on the fence.

I think certain crimes might be warranted for the death penalty but I don't really know that it is ethical or that eye for an eye is really a true solution.

As a person who has been raped and abused...it is sometimes hard not to wish those people were dead.
ordinaryMe · 31-35, F
@JaggedLittlePill I suppose it's always easier for people who have not been through traumatic experiences to voice their opinion because in the end, they do base their point of view on theories, whereas someone who has been a victim of the crime, has a more real opinion due to what they've been thorough. Death Penalty is something that always has and always will start up discussions and controversy and I think that the fact we're not all agreeing on one approach is actually good, as it shows we're still growing as human beings and questions things that do or do not feel right
it's a waste of time
more people die of old age than executions on death row
there are the occasional mistakes that can't be undone
