For about three years, I did volunteer work in a prison. It consisted of conducting a book study one day a week for an hour. The attendance varied between a handful of inmates to between fifteen to eighteen.
I never asked what they had done, but some mentioned why they were there. Some were in for drug offenses. One was in for protecting his daughter from an attempted violent crime.
It was a low security prison. In other words, for the inmates it was the last stop before being released back into society.
