So you think people should spend years in prison for victimless crimes?
All drugs should be legalized. The USA has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world. The war on drugs has costed trillions with no benefit. Meanwhile heroin production is quite lucrative for al-Qaeda, the taliban, etc.
It's also the largest source of state prejudice.
Why is it that possession of crack cocaine (a statistically black crime) has 15 times the mandatory prison sentence as possesion of powder cocaine (a statistically white crime?
If you legalize these drugs you can regulate them and you don't have high levels of inner city violence, gangsterism in latin america, the middle east, and so on.
Also, from a purely economic perspective the war on drugs is doomed to failure. Demand is inelastic so shortages produced by drug busts just cause a major increase in equilibrium cost and total profits made by remaining dealers. The result is invariably more drug-related crime.
Another consequence of the drug war has been more potent and dangerous drugs, i.e., crack and methamphetamine instead of cocaine, fentanyl and heroin instead of opium.
And no, it's not about will power, it's clearly a medical problem. Drug addiction tends to run in families and has to some degree a genetic basis.

Why is marijuana in quotes?
So, addiction to smart phones is ok, so we don’t outlaw them...
Substances and things alone do not create addiction.
Outlawing drugs doesn’t make addiction a smaller problem.
What you understand about humanity isn’t much.

As a matter of fact, smartphone addiction is a much bigger problem than marijuana addiction.
Your clouded brain is incapable of understanding my point.
I pity you.

@JoeyFoxx Smartphone addiction does not make one a junkie-trash!
Addiction to anything is bad but there are addictions that do not ruin one's life!
Marijuana does ruin lots of life!
It starts with marijuana first then it is taken to LSD and other bull-sh*t intoxication stuff!

@ExplorerofInfiniteSpaces It is literally difficult to get addicted to marijuana and there is very scant evidence that it is a "gateway drug"
As for device addiction not ruining lives, tell that to the accident victims related to texting while driving.
What you know about things could fill a thimble with room to spare

Well, we're doing the same thing with alcohol, tobacco, and a boatload of prescription and otc drugs.
Personally, I'm libertarian on this topic. Why regulate it at all? Hold people accountable for what they do while they are on drugs, but so far trying to regulate the drugs has done little but generate a bustling black market.

@Xuan12 Please tell me when people are really held accountable for there actions. It sounds good but it will never happen.

I'm all for it. Many drugs (especially marijuana) has been demonized to the point of farce, but compared with many other things (e.g. alcohol) is much less of a health risk. We have lost many opportunities for improving people's lives from the good that the chemicals in marijuana can do in terms of pain management because it's been so lambasted.
Begin able to control the quality and potency of what's available by having it legalized seems like common sense to me, and the tax revenues will be good too.

Not against it being given for medical reasons. And even then you don't have to smoke it. It's given in pill form. But just for the every day smoker, I see no need in it. It damages the lungs, and impairs. It's just one more thing to add to the list of things that can harm.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
I really don't care about it tbh. People who preach the health benefits are people who will smoke it like a recreational purpose in the first place. The people who suffer do not have a single thought about marijuana, unless they've already had tried it and found love for it.
If a person is suffering, painkillers is much more effective. Trust me I've tried it, and it does not easy any pain what so ever. And I'm aware there are much better ways to treat cancer than smoking, otherwise marijuana would have been legalized a long time ago.

@JoeyFoxx Then you do agree with me that it's not a painkiller at least. That's great.
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
I never claimed it was a painkiller. Anyone who claims it is doesn’t understand what a painkiller is.
With that, your statements that painkillers “work” are not entirely accurate. People can develop a tolerance and certain drugs are less effective on certain people depending on their biology.
Marijuana has a place. It needn’t be outlawed. But, the knee jerk reaction of some regions over-promoting it’s health benefits is unfortunate.

Look at the numbers you knob and compare the damage done by alcohol to that caused by MJ. Oh wait a minute you're not going to. You rather talk out of your ass
