I don't like it when the metaphor is taken too far and I'm expected to submit to shepherding by self appointed shepherdesses on the basis of their out-of-context rantings or their seniority in the pews.
As a basic metaphor, as in 'the Lord is my shepherd,' I'm ok with it because it's nice and cute and it doesn't give too much license to dominators.
