Why is it our grade school and middle school has a dress code but our high school does not?

My second grade daughter got a dress code violation today because the straps of her shirt were too thin. My 15 year old daughter can wear whatever she wants to school regardless of how much skin it shows. This is the same school district. I should probably ask them but wanted to hear other peoples thoughts on it.

We had very strict uniforms all through school. I had to wear socks or stockings, skirt, blouse, tie and blazer.

@Uncle I know! Dad made me wear stockings to school. I think the other girls are in tights

@MrsPeterEvans I'd think knee socks would be most proper for school, but then, I'm a bit old-fashioned. :)

I did have knee socks mostly, dark ones, but the other girls were allowed tights so I begged to wear them but my dad didn’t like tights so I was allowed stockings for best and for school when I was older @Uncle

I'm going to guess the thinking is to teach morals and expectations as to what's okay to wear. Do I agree with it? Not necessarily. But only because forced structure isn't teaching.
Further, I'm not sure this type of structure teaches real morals or empathy, for that matter.

In my experience a proper school uniform works better than a dress code. There is no ambiguity with a school uniform about what is allowed and what is not.
That's weird for my school middle school has no dress code only high school does

I would certainly be asking. Makes no sense whatsoever.
MrsPeterEvans · 31-35, F
My dad would have punished me if the school gave me a punishment about my uniform such as lines or detention.

Should be the other way around. Put the high schoolers in a uniform.

@76starships Thats what I thought too.

@morrgin They could do without the distractions. And it teaches them to dress decent for work someday.

my 2 oldest daughters wears uniforms my oldest daughter hates them my second oldest daughter is okay with them

That is strange. Our kids school is more strict with the older kids. hardly need a dress code with the little ones...happy to chat if ya want.

That does not make much sense indeed.
