Do you believe in population control?

Part of me wants to say no, but in the end there will eventually be A LOT of people we cant accomodate and it kinda seems like a practical solution until we can start colonizing either parts of the world we were previously unable to live in or other planets

i believe that the natural order dictates that when someone does something stupid and dangerous they will become injured and as a result they die and nobody will expend resources to save them. these days there are hundreds of "world dumbest people" and "the stupidest things ever said" video compilations, this is because people who do stupid things these days are saved and then go on to breed. yes there is definitely good reason to control the population in one form or another.

Sadly the stupid people are the ones who tend to reproduce irresponsibly and spread those genes. [@397436,xSharp]
xSharp · 31-35, M
[@339269,JimboSaturn] and when reproducing with other idiots they are not only missing an opportunity to improve their gene pools, they are constantly doing more damage to it creating dumber and dumber generations then the last.

they spawn litters that they do not care for or provide for, taxpayers do and it is because they are payed to do so that they continue ruining the world without a care..
In the US? No, we don't have enough self control for that. There are several countries which employ that strategy and I do respect that. I'm one of 5 kids, and I can see why people would wanna limit things a little.
KidAzazel · 22-25
[@333226,XamadtheFirst] the citizens of the us may not have enough self control but im sure if it was in the governments hands its be a different story

Yes this exponential growth is unsustainable.

It is infinitely easier to just take care of the perfect planet we have no than rely on some wild and resource demanding solution like populating another planet. Plus with exponential growth occurring , we will soon populate the new planet.
ScabbyHeart · 41-45, M
Yes been thinking about that off and on through out my life, china has lead the way with it's one child policy... but I do believe nature or "god" will "correct" this problem with a pandemic or massive solar flare, or some other disaster.
We are so dependent on technology, starting with genX but especially mellinals, and the igeneration that it wont take much to collapse or societies..

That being said will we go extinct? no ... 3 rd world countries who are not tech advanced and those social groups (Amish, self sufficient homesteaders and preppers etc.)who do not subscribe or over scribe to technology will inherit the mess that's left...

I agree we will survive, but what quality of life will be have with overpopulation. Not to mention the misery and suffering it will bring to many.[@5303,Funbymoonlight]
ScabbyHeart · 41-45, M
[@339269,JimboSaturn] hey not saying that there wont be suffering and hardship for Billions... basic biology shows us the population life cycles curves are pretty uniform for most species, bacteria, flies, rats, its all the same... at some point it all collapses and starts again.

Quality of life? ? ? with over population would be terrible of course.. and when that population collapses... very bad. What resources are left?
Clean water, air, soil, oceans?
Why I wont be surprised when some over zealous genetic eco minded scientist decides to make a lethal strain of whatever and releases it upon the earth to provide a "reset" to nature, scary stuff. not my idea of a good time. no bueno

The entire population can stand shoulder to shoulder on the island of Maui.
Or give everyone a 10'x10' room and it would fit in the state of West Virginia.
Food for thought.
KidAzazel · 22-25
[@9825,abe182] this is true. Theres still a ton of empty and unused space in the world too
abe182 · 46-50, M
[@457005,KidAzazel] yes exactly.
'Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature' - Georgia guidestones...
[@457005,KidAzazel] It was written - or, at least, commissioned - by a fraternal order member who possessed and still does possess 'insight'.
KidAzazel · 22-25
[@669203,EugenieLaBorgia] that much was clear. But nobody knows who exactly he was. He gave a fake name and everything. Call me crazy but it sounds a bit like a govt plot
[@457005,KidAzazel] Not the government, at all. 'Let these be guidestones to an Age of Reason' - on the granite, itself.
Scientists estimate we will even out at 11 Billion. Not exactly too many.
KidAzazel · 22-25
[@448067,Qwerty14] i suppose there are a lot of specific places that are overpopulated, like china, india, etc, and if countries cooperated more with each other people could spread to more vacant areas, like russia or various islands/countrysides, but what are the chances of that happening? And thats still another 3 billion people before we even out. Thats still quite a lot
[@457005,KidAzazel] Yeah but we have tons of room. The truth is people who think we can't handle larger populations just don't see the bigger picture. But if you really are concerned with it the best way to decrease growth is to develop undeveloped nations. Basically developed nations don't have growth. It is only the 3rd world that you'll see a big growth.

Also China and India are on the mend. They had most of their growth and are steadily reducing their increase. Sure they are a bit overpopulated but they are spreading out. I mean surely you've noticed the increase in Asian immigration over the last 50 years

If it doesnt include abortion I'm for it
KidAzazel · 22-25
[@157515,FreeSpirit1] i think abortion is good if the mother herself makes that decision, but it would be horrible to think of as a population control method
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
[@457005,KidAzazel] I don't think abortion is ever "good"
KidAzazel · 22-25
[@157515,FreeSpirit1] well thats certainly your opinion to have
User41 · 36-40, M

It’s already built into the system.

That’s why we will one day nuke ourselves.
