I did this.
A few years back, in the first summer after I gave up work I was taking the kids to see my MIL every week, I missed one week as the only day she had free I was getting a filling. She told the whole extended family that I was preventing her from seeing the grandchildren. So I stopped going round and arranging it leaving it all up to her, I wasn't going to put up with her crap and have her complain about me. At least now when she complains she's telling the truth.
