Has anyone here asked you for monetary assistance?

I had to let someone down :( Was it a scam, probably but that story was so believable!! Feel rotten :(
bookerdana · M Best Comment
While sometimes the need may be true enough I can't see any payback. Scammers make money because the story is believable. You'd do more good donating to charities or a food bank

@bookerdana Perfect approach, i should specify in my message intro that i won't provide any financial assistance or something to that effect so people won't be operating under any false hopes.

Miram · 31-35, F
Yes, sometimes I helped, sometimes I didn't.

I also had people offer me money and even shelter. Someone as early as EP days. He has a heart of gold. I didn't accept either because I felt I could still pull my own weight.

Don't feel guilty. It is alright to say no.
Miram · 31-35, F
@SW-User there are websites where they can set up funding accounts for internationals.
SW-User
@Miram Kay, i'd need to look into it to know more of the particulars, ty my friend
Miram · 31-35, F
@SW-User You are welcome. Stay safe though. Help those involved in your life first and foremost.
4meAndyou · F
No. I have seen a couple of posts asking for money, but I reported them at once, and the posts were taken down.

A great rule of thumb is to never give money to anyone whom you don't know personally, in RL.
And an even better rule is to never accept offers of help or gifts from anyone online unless you don't KNOW the gifts are in the mail...and they just arrive out of the blue...(as happened to me once).
SW-User
@4meAndyou I like that rule of thumb, ty ....:)

On Craigslist they expect women to be horas. Of course Craigslist is probably CIA or more likely NSA, so easy to scoop up from that crowd....

Here's what it is: ALL men will misunderstand an ad that reads "Companion and gardener-helper available for seniors or others, pay what you can, no rules, contact me here and I will call you back"

So the reason they misunderstand is that they want *** and assume the ad is promising to provide it. It must have come from the CIA or NSA, that kind of debasement because men are very polite in the real world and women never go to some strange guys motel room ever in the real world.

One woman actually did understand and told me the ad was "sweet". I hope to meet her soon and help out. The job market hiring is abusive and hurtful and this volunteer work will ease things for me when I hit the meat market fairs again.

Another guy fresh from the military and 3 fancy schools wanted to "help" me. (many men parade around fresh from their churches and act like they can be a lecher and prostitute-savior at the same time)

I told him he failed the interview because he couldn't read. Then he tried to write back and got nuked.

So yeah the debased types want *** and want u the sucker to beg for everything, the more hurting the more begging on U to do that dirty work 4 them.

Its part of a very pervy/sadistic and death-oriented culture we love to pump up here in North America.
No, but I could use some
@SW-User Sniffs* You*

Smells like a scam
SW-User
@MsSwan but i'd be the one helping, i'd be the one taking the risk!!
@SW-User Of course

Some one begging in the street, or a busker or Big Issue seller, is one thing but a remote request from someone unknown, perhaps trying to pretend to be a real friend or relative, is always a criminal attempt.

The only time I have been asked directly by a stranger in the street was when a girl I judged to be in her early teens, standing outside the Co-Op, tried to ask me to buy cigarettes in there "for her mother". I think in fact she had the cash. I did of course refuse outright, civilly but firmly. I forget if I warned the shop staff.
SW-User
@ArishMell You're a very decent and good person for standing up for what is right, ty

Honestly, don't feel rotten.
I can't even imagine asking somebody for money on here.
I'd rather go to the agencies than to do that.
SW-User
@Justmeraeagain It was supposedly a last ditch effort on this person's problem. TY
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@SW-User well, I don't know the particulars... I guess and I don't trust very much.
The only time I was asked for money it was a scam and I basically told him to get lost.
SW-User
@Justmeraeagain The safe method of procedure :)
nedkelly · 61-69, M
No, and I would give maybe $100 to one person only I have known for more than 13 years
SW-User
@nedkelly Manchester United?

You like AC/DC too!!
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@SW-User I follow Man Utd, hate Liverpool
SW-User
@nedkelly Got me :( rats, good thing i still have some funds!!
Travelbug · 56-60, F
He didn't ask outright for money but had blown his life savings on another EP member. He wanted to come to England and stay at my place. When i said he couldn't he set up a Gofundme account
bookerdana · M
Thanks for B.C...was this happening on SW??
bookerdana · M
@SW-User There was a guy here two years ago,he was in a mess having been kicked out of his apartment..we tried to fund him through admins but they wanted no part. WE had all known him for years and wanted us to send money through the mail...obviously it would never had reached him and he did get things sorted
SW-User
@bookerdana Hmmm i have someone in my memory that may have been that guy.

Reminds me not directly of a delightful youtuber who has such a golden quirky humorous style, her experience with a stalker who lived in the apartment complex she was living in, she had to live in a tent all paranoid for awhile. She's doing ok now i think.
bookerdana · M
@SW-User he has a youtube channel..no paranoia tents
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
No. But a woman asked me for money in the street in Newcastle yesterday. I have a cast iron defence against it, I never carry any cash!
SW-User
@ninalanyon Good thinking!!
Bleak · 36-40, F
Nopes. But I once asked for it for someone in need. That stranger is a generous soul.
SW-User
@Bleak Kindness exists!! ty for sharing ....:)
Bleak · 36-40, F
@SW-User Indeed. And don’t feel rotten. Your intentions are kind.
SW-User
@Bleak ty, if i ever figure out how exactly i can securely help out financially i may do so in the future, but i'm a slow learner. And i'm in no rush to learn atm
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
SW-User
@Jenny1234 Good, it can become a sticky situation fast!!
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@SW-User how much did they scam you out of?
SW-User
@Jenny1234 nothing, but were asking for just whatever i could do. In need of $200
Yes. Someone i was at school with. Turns out she asked a few of us
SW-User
@V00doo Like a money pot luck .....:)
@SW-User I guess so
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
No one has ever asked me for money, but I have offered help to a couple of friends going through tough times. One accepted and one didn't. Over all it went very well. 😊
