Why Does This Happen?

When you maybe reach out to take something from somebody you ever feel what I can only describe as an electric shock? If so why does that happen?

Dry air and static electricity. You can get it even from water when you wash your hands.

@Thandeka
Drier conditions tend to result in a higher risk of static electricity buildup, which can lead to electrostatic discharges. This is due to the fact that the air moisture content is a natural conductor, earthing any potential static charge.
@CrazyMusicLover It would make sense if it was summer time but it's the winter season on my side of the world 😄.

@Thandeka If it's freezing outside and you are heating then air can get very dry indoors. The driest air I ever experienced was in winter when it was around -10°C outside and the heating was on at home. It usually gets that bad that my hair raises up.

The majority of the responses here are leaning towards static electricity. So here's another plausible explanation.

When swelling happens inside your hands or wrist, it compresses your nerves, distorting your sensations in your fingers. One of the symptoms is a feeling similar to an electric shock.

@Renkon What would cause swelling on the palms or wrists 😅
Renkon · 36-40, M
@Thandeka Keeping the arms in the same position for an extended period of time. Those who work in front of a computer may overstretch particular muscles in the palms and wrists, resulting in swelling. Pregnancy, drug side effects, and other factors can all contribute to this.

The point is that such swelling might generate a shock-like sensation in the fingertips.

@Thandeka Maybe y’all skeptics haven’t discovered how to read yet 🧐😌

@SW-User I actually haven't learnt to understand speculation. No offense 🤭.

@Thandeka Well that’s very apparent isn’t it 😌

Sure. It used to happen a lot more often when cars had vinyl seat covers. Slide across those on a cold day and you could really shock somebody.

When we were kids we would rub our feet on the carpet, and shock each other. Something very simple to entertain us… lol
Thandeka · 31-35, F
@Luckylu Maybe I should experiment too 🤭.
