Why do people say “Shit happen.” So much. It’s annoying.

My late father used to say that to us all the time and wasn’t afraid to be straightforward and blunt with us. Sometimes too brutally blunt that hurts our feelings.
Even my older half siblings say it (ages 39 and 35). Why do people keep saying that.
Even when I went though my first break up, my dad said, “Well, shit happens. We get our hearts broken. I told you that boy was no good for you.”
"Shit happens" is just another way of saying "Don't cry over spilled milk". Its a reminder to not get overly upset over things that are out of your control. It is normal to be upset and disturbed initially by things, but when it gets to a point of rumination, and or hyperfixion, on something that honestly shouldn't matter too much in the long run, it can negatively effect the healing process of the afflicting grievance.

I say "Stuff happens." It's the same saying, but a more "family friendly" variation. And people say it because it's true, stuff does indeed happen.
