I would love to go back to the fifties

I am drawn to almost everything from that time period. Music and films, home styles and furniture and fashion that still looks amazing and iconic 70 years later. Peplum tops with pencil skirts and dresses with crinoline skirts, make any girl feel pretty and feminine. Retro hair styles and cat eye sunglasses. Even the underwear was sexy for pin-up burlesque look. I'd happily live in the fifties and thrive I think. It's a time when men were men and women were women.

It sounds great looking back. At the time it didn't seem so wonderful. My uncle had clear plastic covering the furniture, we had only black and white television that was almost always blurry.

@samueltyler2 but TV was an event. It might have been blurred but everyone appreciated it when it was on and when it wasn't, you played games or read, real paper books with pages that are a novelty now and you got smart doing it 😂

@Patientlywaiting thanks, yes, we had outside activities as well as inside. We read newspapers every day for current events in school, I still do. We really didn't argue with teachers, socialization was in friends basements, not walking malls. Television was on during the day, and ended about midnight. Be all games were really very special events. I remember the first color broadcast of the Rose Bowl, one of my friend's parents had this monster of a set, we all gathered in his house. As the game progressed, the broadcaster did not have enough lights on the field, so color turned to black and white.

@samueltyler2 I was reminiscing with my husband about TV which I remember in the 80s. Our TV used to go wrong and the picture would roll. My Dad's response was to get up and whack it which always seemed to fix the issue lol. When it did work there were only four channels but we were happier then than now.

@Patientlywaiting the UK had only national television until somewhat recently. But, the quality of images was better than we had.

@samueltyler2 yes the colour always seemed weird on American shows as I remember.

@Patientlywaiting it had to do with scanning rates. Most of Europe had many more lines on the screen than the US standard. When we lived in Iceland, when i served in the Navy, we had to have an adapter inside our TV so we could watch both icelandic and US Navy broadcasts.
