Saying Goodbye...to a restaurant.

A popular restaurant just closed down by me. There wasn't much fanfare except for some social media posts(not by the place itself). I was shocked. I had been eating there since the mid-70s; tons of memories came swirling back:

My little league team piling in after a game(we lost pretty much every one).
My family eating there, all four of us;
My first ever "date", when I was in 7th grade.
Hundreds of meals since then, more so when I moved closer in the late 90s.

The reason? Higher price margins made it hard to make money. Nothing is replacing it; it will just be vacant, a further apparition and reminder of what used to be.

As I left for the final time yesterday, I said "I had my first date here!", only to hear "We had ours here too!" from a couple as I walked through the door.

50 years of going there, gone in a flash. Anyone else miss a place that meant a lot?

Yes there was a restaurant near me that closed several years ago, it had been there fifty years or more. It had the BEST ever chicken carbonara...omg. it was a chicken theme restaurant and that particular dish was AWESOME. My dad took us there a few times and it makes me sad that now he's not here too. We loved their cinnamon rolls, homemade. Just scrumptious. To serve cinnamon rolls before dinner?! It was such a wonderful place 🙂 I'm sorry you also had that sad experience recently too. At least those memories will be there anytime we like🌟
Man thats echoingly sad😕

The world is changing again. And not in a good way.

I think we have to consider ourselves lucky that we got to do all those things we did growing up: the movies, hanging out, beaches, diners, riding our bikes and generally just experiencing stuff.
Its all fading away.

I miss the ice and roller skating rinks. I think we have one left out of all of them.

When such an iconic place closes it like a door shuts on that part of your life - you can no longer share it with anyone.

I hate that, but sometimes people retire and family don't want to take over

Oh absolutely. I'm sorry to hear that.

my high school got turned into a middle school and not longer has the same name.

I drive past lots of places that used to be something else when I first moved here.

they call it progress.

it's a shame about your restaurant.

I've been reflecting on such changes recently. It sucks when you drive past a place that was in your memory for years and it's literally gone.
