If you're talking about online “friends,” the majority of people aren't genuine; for many, it's always a "facade,” their words usually being empty, which is easier to do online because you don't have to face someone. I recently came across an article about online friends who eventually met in person, and one of them ended up detesting the other because, despite their one-year correspondence and apparent compatibility, their personalities simply didn't mesh in the real world. The truth is many come on here to fill voids, and once they've filled it, they drift away, which again is easier to do online, so I'm sure you aren't the issue here.
