Keep commenting where you're trying to think that you're a psychologist making any sense. You seem to be the people that are the problem on here. No wonder the internet's crap anymore. Y'all just like being rude and childish because you don't know how to behave any other way you think it's just fine. I agree with your heading but I don't think they are all poorly educated, though some may be poor at thinking.

You cannot tar everyone aged <41 and >45 with the same prejudices though, just because some do not understand what you write!

Many of those readers probably could understand the message, but are unable or refuse to read it properly so they do understand what [i]you[/i] mean, especially if it an opinion or fact they do not share or they find uncomfortable. Others may simply be ill-mannered anyway.

Which makes me wonder why they bother to use a site that encourages discussion!

It is poor form to use abbreviations not commonly used publicly, without explaining them.

It's one thing using everyday initials like "USA", "UN", £, Eu or $. (Though you may somtimes need indicate [i]which[/i] country's dollar.)

It's quite another if the abbreviation is from some particular branch of specialist knowledge or some purely national / regional context. Then unless the reader is equally versed in that area, it is only polite and indeed conventional to write it fully plus (abbreviation in parentheses) on first reference, so even a well-educated reader does not have to stop to find its meaning externally. Or very reasonably, to request the sender explains it. Or even just to think, "This writer does not want me to understand the message".

There was a day when people knew how to communicate using ordinary words in more-or-less grammatical sentences. In those times there were no incoherent nitwits who thought being educated meant knowing how to 'google it'.
