You're not wrong. It started with the Internet but the damn Smart phone made it boom then the pandemic capped it off.

@PoisonLace yup it's much too late and the younger ones get offended. I think I'm an oddball I used to hide and listen to the things my parents talked about when we had company. I never had that bull headed attitude that they didn't understand me or I knew better then them

@Gibbon nothing wrong with being a fly on the wall. 😄
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@PoisonLace many times at that age it was more then educational. It fired up the imagination.

I'm gen z and I really want to see what life is like without the internet
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@unregisteredhypercam4 It showed people what true connection is. I lived in the time with no internet. People were different.

It's up to us how to use technology. Recently, I was surprised to have caught up with people (1-on-1 talks while doing exercise together) only to realize we share the same sadness. But being each other's companion certainly helps make us feel better about our own selves and about life and how we face the future.
So yeah, technology is alright. But relying too much and locking oneself in it is basically killing life. So go out. See people. Talk under the stars. Listen to cricket songs. Watch kids fly kites. Those things that are simple and not at all costly, but are infinitely more precious than diamonds.

You're so right. Somehow something change after the Millenium, and then everthing besides technology starting changing drastically after the banks collapsed, that's after the 2008 financial crisis. Nothing is the same since. No more room to do anything like recovering or trying to get back to ones feet
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@val70 I’m glad to know other people feel the same and are on the same level. ❤

Well put.
In this day and age of emoticons and memes and instant gratification, real personal touch and affection is lost somewhere. It’s hard to find and for many, it’s harder to accept.

@Nick1 Just have to hope people wake up. I’d give so much for genuine conversation right now.
Nick1 · 61-69, M
@PoisonLace it’s always good to have genuine conversations, I am always open for conversation.
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@Nick1 glad to be in good company 😇

In my tradition, the word for friend translates as
"one who guards your heart when you no longer can"
"one who guards your heart when you no longer can"
Making any kind of real friendship online is pointless....I tried...I'm done now ...I'll stick to offline people for real friendships
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@chernobylplaygr0unds that makes sense.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Make that shift yourself, don't wait for instructions or official approval. Technology can be be democratic and liberating . . . but not if we passively accept what we are served as inevitable.
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@SunshineGirl oh, I’m definitely not looking for approval/instructions/direction from here. I was basically expressing my observation.
MayorOfCrushtown · M
it all starts with logging off.
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@MayorOfCrushtown yes…but not everyone will. My friends seem to be stuck online, and bound to their work and home life, and nothing else. It’s an endless cycle, and it’s only getting worse as we get older. Before we know it, we’re looking in the mirror asking ourselves where the time went, and how come we didn’t call anyone since the early 2000s…because now they’ve lost touch or died. Not saying no one has called and vice versa, however, regular connection doesn’t happen like it did before. I blame it on social media, but that’s my opinion.
Adstar · 56-60, M
They traded in the search for genuine love for a load of cheap attention..
PoisonLace · 41-45, F
@Adstar I totally agree with you.
