Have you ever had anyone in your neighborhood hate you?

I have a couple of neighbors who despise me. I think they talk with each other and take turns calling the police on me. That way it isn't the same person calling every time. I know I've been loud in the past when I was drinking and on the phone or something else. But, now I can't even have a simple conversation on my porch or anything. I remember one time awhile back I was talking on the phone, completely sober, inside my house. I was mainly listening to the person on the phone, and I was really tired and quiet. Anyway, I could hear one of my neighbors screaming all the way from his house down the street "SHUT UP!!!". I didn't even know he was talking to me. I went outside to smoke a cigarette (at that point I still smoked), and I said one word on the phone and the neighbor screamed for me to shut up. I couldn't even believe he was talking to me at that point. It took quite some time before I realized he was yelling at me. It just didn't make any sense to me.

Yesterday a different neighbor call the police on me and said I was being loud again. I don't even remember saying anything outloud. I was just watching YouTube videos on my phone with ear buds.

Then, my neighbor started screaming at me late last night. "Ass*ole, this, Ass*ole that..."

I've been told by police that people can be loud. It might suck for them but that's the way it is. I used to call the police on my neighbors because they were so loud I couldn't have dinner with my family or help my son with his homework. And that's what I was told. You can get in trouble for calling the police too much too. I'm lucky my neighbors here are quiet. But he works. My other (loud) neighbors were retired and under 50. I don't remember why they were retired so young. But they talked and talked and talked every single day. And their voices just carried. They would blast the radio during a Sunday afternoon. And after 10 pm. Every day really. It was awful. They owned the property too. That made it harder. My other neighbors in that neighborhood were drunks too. They would keep us up at night because they were on the side of the house that we slept on. My husband went over there a couple of times and asked them to keep it down. And he did work. He just didn't have any hobbies. Sometimes I hear the radio next door here but it is at a reasonable volume and doesn't bother me.

@Spoiledbrat Yeah. It just really bothers me especially when I don't remember making any noise. I know my earbuds probably cause more problems than good. If I'm reacting to something I see on my phone with my earbuds in, I don't realize how loud I might be. I don't want to bother anyone either with my videos. Yesterday I really don't remember reacting loudly to a YouTube video or anything though. I wish my neighbors would tell me I'm being loud or even text me, and I'd stop. I wouldn't be loud intentionally. He might have yelled at me, but I couldn't hear with my earbuds. Or, possibly, he just called. I don't know. As I told the police, I realize I was loud in the past a few times, but I don't understand why they're calling when I'm not being loud.

You can go down to the Police Station and file a complaint against them individually on each occurrence. The Police most likely wondo anything, but it will be on record. If worse comes to worse, you can sue your neighbors, individually, for harassment.

No, but as citizens, we are not allowed to harass one another. Yelling "shut up" does not fall under free speech.

Ive been on both sides of the fense. Issue was the home we lived in was a 3 family building in New England made of wood built in 1905 and no insulation. Creaky floors and open vents. No privacy at all.
