If Medieval torturing devices were brought back for criminals would the crime rate decrease because people would be scared to be boiled alive,

Drowned or eaten alive by rats and maggots?
TexChik · F
Public hangings should come back into being. No more back log. Takes about 5 seconds once they hit the end of that rope to die from the severed spinal cord. There is no greater deterrent for crime than having the other cons clean up the gallows and get it ready for the next guy. Allowing people that commit capital crimes to breath for very long after their sentencing is a waste of time and money.

Yeah, those "deterrents" were just about effective as the death penalty is today, right?

@dancingtongue
life in prison without parole is just effective in keeping the truly guilty off the streets.
and costs taxpayers over $30,000 a year per inmate
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@wildbill83 The median death penalty case costs $1.26 million.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@dancingtongue rope costs 29 cents per foot...

I'm not certain about this, but I feel like the majority of crime doesn't result from a lack of punishment or punishment severity. It could be the case for some crimes, I suppose.
BigBulge · 41-45, M
So far, no type of punishment has worked to reduce crime. I think they must believe that they'll never get caught.

Imagine all of the wrongfully committed inmates getting tortured for no reason

I wouldn’t be opposed to doing it to child molesters
It never worked then to stop crime.

We went backwards enough in time with whatshisname as president. Pretty sure we kicked his dumb @$$ out for doing the stupid stuff like insurrection.

Unfortunately.. human right is a big obstacle for that lol
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
it's a sad state of affairs when we have people concerned about the "humane rights" of rapists and pedophiles that thrive upon destroying the humanity of their victims... 🤔

Putting people in stocks would be humiliating for some. Others would see those as an initiation.
redredred · M
I read once that it can take 20-30 minutes to die being boiled alive.
Lilymoon · F
yeah no doubt would stop a few peeps lol

Did death penalty ever reduce crime so far?
