Throwing out my life today but that's ok

I rented a big 20 yard dumpster and I'm emptying the basement and garage.

No mercy, no sentiment. It's all going. I've held onto too much stuff over the years for sentimental reasons and I feel like I can't breathe around here.

I found my old banjo down there.
Why am I keeping this?
What made me think I needed to learn the banjo when I was 13 years old?
One of many things I took up around that age, then turned around and thought " what the hell am I doing?"

One thing I found so far that gets a reprieve:
My great-grandmother's cheese grinder.
It's an heirloom at this point.

Good for you Sir Robin. Lighten up that soul. Good stuff. 🙂

You are a brave man! I need to do the same thing. Do I really need those golf clubs that I got from my father-in-law in 1972?
@exexec you always hear it's liberating.
It is.

20 yard seems small to me, since I'm more used to moving 40 and 60 yards around. 😆
@DeWayfarer I saw this dumpster and thought wow that's huge, I'll never fill this.
Now I realize it's not big enough.

A huge part of me hates doing this because of my environmental stances. I hate that all this is going into a landfill, into the ground to sit there. I hate all the waste we produce and how so much of what we buy turns to waste so quickly.

@robingoodfellow I know the feeling very well.
Is the cheese grinder one of those ones you clasp together and has mutiple attachments for different grind sizes?
@robingoodfellow oh my....a bench top one!

Nice.

Geez, she is an old one!
@OogieBoogie Italian families take their parmesan very seriously
@robingoodfellow ahhh, but once you finally have PROPER parmesan.... you can't go back .
Im envious.

I need to knuckle down and do this.
I need to let go all those projects that'll never happen, and hand me downs I'll never hand down.
....its all just emotional baggage now.
@OogieBoogie that's exactly what ran through my head. I thought just rent the freakin' dumpster and do it.
@robingoodfellow GO FOR IT 💪. Grab that energy while you have it .... and HAVE at it !

Ive lost half of my belongings more than once before, and excluding a few months lamentation over it - it was actually emotionally cleansing.

Actually...this has reminded me of, ultimately how good it was.

Go forth and heave thy shit gone😊👍

We have been purging for the last couple of years and I find it liberating. All these things were really weighing me down! Don't even look at the stuff, just toss it. If you haven't touched it in years, you don't need it.
